Converting My Tweets into Bling-Bling
I received an email today through GameZombie from the CEO of Magpie & Friends Ltd. about a new ad network for Twitter that works a lot like Google’s AdWords/AdSense. There are two sides to it- advertisers and those who tweet advertisements. I signed up to be the latter. You can read more about how it works on your own, but I’m more concerned with how ads on twitter will effect the service. Most people use the service to simply say what they’re doing and some have discovered it’s a great way to get the word out about their latest blog post, service, or product. It is a genuine way to interact with other people and companies, so what happens to those genuine connections when advertisements are periodically inserted into the stream?
I currently have 79 followers when I opted into #magpie. I’m going to allow them to insert 1 ad after 10 original tweets by me. They should be targeted towards topics I’ve been discussing (web design, school, current events, etc.). I’m hoping my following will continue to grow and that the #magpie tweets don’t make my already established connections seem disingenuous.
Magpie quoted my earnings to be around 40 euros a month when I first signed up, but I think that’s assuming I stick with their default 1 ad per 5 tweets. If I could make 20 euros (about $25) a month just from tweeting, I’d be a very happy camper. Heck, if I earned that a year it would pay for a few domains.
