The Only Reason You Should Ever Take The Elevator One Floor
You are disabled meaning you can’t physically climb a flight of stairs at all or without being in severe pain.
That’s the only acceptable reason for taking an elevator up or down one floor. If you are moving a refrigerator or suffer from extreme bathmophobia, then maybe I can let you slide, but no able-bodied person should ever take the elevator up or down just one floor. You are lazy and putting yourself at risk to being punched in the back of the head!
I don’t care how heavy your backpack is or how long of a day you’ve had- take the stairs. They are there in case of fire and in case you only need to go one flight up or down.
I stress the up or down because someone tonight actually took the elevator from the 4th floor to the 3rd floor. Usually, you see people taking the elevator from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor, and they deserve to be verbally abused with phrases such as:
- “Were the stairs broken?”
- “Could you be any lazier?”
- “Would you like me to show you the stairs so you don’t have to take the elevator down?”
- “Consider this a warning!”
- “Incoming!” followed by a punch to the back of the head for those who have been warned
This has been building up for the better part of 4 years and that lazy individual who couldn’t mosey down one flight of stairs put me over the edge. I’d appreciate comments including more things to say to these people who refuse to take the stairs.

I sympathize with your pain on this one. I encounter people who take the elevator from the first floor of Willkie to the second floor.
Personally, I think it’s pushing it taking the elevator from the basement to the second.
I don’t know anything to say to them, but usually the stare of death scolds them for the 1.2 seconds they are on the elevator.

I agree with all of the above sentiments. My usual response to such behavior is to look at the person after they press the button for their desired floor and respond, “Really?” The comment “Seriously?” also seems to have the same effect. And I will add that this behavior is especially annoying when you’re riding in an already full elevator and the single floor rider still tries to squeeze on.

Yeah taking an elevator for one flight is lazy, but it’s not like they are doing anything bad or illegal. They aren’t hurting anyone so I don’t see the big deal. Why does it bother you so much??

Mel- it’s really just a waste of everyone’s time. The person who waits for the elevator to go one floor wastes their time because they could have taken the stairs in half the time. It wastes everyone else’s time in the elevator, too. For example, if I wanted to go to floor 4, someone else wanted to go to floor 3, and some jerk decides to ride it one floor to 2, everyone but the jerk has to make twice as many stops. Elevators were created to help people save time since they can travel faster than most people can climb stairs. They don’t save anyone time by riding them just one floor.
